About Hooker Boats

Hooker boats started out in 1998. The present owner John Margetts was contracted to build dories for commercial fisherman from one mould. In 1999, the owners decided to get out of the boat building business and John bought the one mould that was producing about one boat a month.

It was then time to upgrade this mould and produce one that commercial fisherman would want to fish from. The 4.9metre Hooker was born, and sales poured in. One commercial operator bought sixteen for his three mother boats. From this humble beginning the business has expanded its range to include recreational boats including the 5m, the 6m, the 6.7m and now the 8m.

John is a master craftsman who had discovered his boat building passion during the Ten years he worked at Riviera Marine under Bill and Kerry Barry-Cotter.

This knowledge was carried forward to build up his own successful business building boats.

The boats he makes are the best because their hull laminate is all hand laid for consistency, built with a laminate that has proven itself with commercial fisherman who use and punish boats on a daily basis. The under floor has the positive floatation that will need to be of a standard in the future and the soft dry ride of the Hookers are second to none. At the end of the day, it is the employees at Hooker that put their dedication into building the boats that gives a high quality finish.

The Hooker Boats are made from materials that are leading edge in the marine industry and are a quality Australian product.
